Mindfulness-based Therapies Practicum -
2018 Baltimore Practicum - Intro Feb 21st; 8-week course begins Feb 28th, 2018 North Central Baltimore location. For therapists, teachers, and other professional helpers who wish to integrate mindfulness into their existing work.
Now in its 15th year, updated and expanded in 2009, this practicum is based on the UMASS model of professional practicum training which includes being part of an MBSR class concurrently; in the most common format the MBSR class is in the morning and the professional practicum is in the afternoon (training hours: 2 1/2 hours morning, 2 1/2 hours afternoon, for 8 weeks). Since the practicum is only offered once or twice a year, those professionals who have recently taken another section of MBSR from me within the past 6 months may apply to take just the practicum portion of the course, if space is available.
Practicum includes becoming part of a learning laboratory in which we use our own experience of learning from MBSR to come to a deeper understanding of the professional applications. Participants will be expected to fully engage in and make use of their own experiences with the MBSR curriculum.
Topics covered:
This in-depth training serves two purposes:
1) For those who wish to become an MBSR/MBCT teachers and who have completed the first level of MBSR/MBCT training through UMASS or the MBPTI, this course serves as a Practicum for MBSR teachers in training. Please be aware that this practicum is not sufficient to teach the formal MBSR series without additional professional training.
2) For those who wish to use mindfulness in their professional work (therapy, reserach, teaching, etc). It will however give you the theoretical orientation and practical skills to incorporate mindfulness into chosen your professional work. Examples of this are running mindfulness practice groups for the public or specialized populations; and integrating mindfulness meditations and the philosophy of mindfulness into individual therapeutic work. Individual attention is given regarding this level of integration.
Following the practicum, apprentiships and mentorship through the UCSD MBPTI is also available for credentialed applicants.
