Ring in the new year in Florida with a new, more compassionate way of relating to yourself! Enjoy the entire MSC course in a nourishing retreat environment.
This intensive will cover the entire 8-week MSC course including the half-day retreat in a natural tropical setting with well-ventilated spaces to practice, such as a covered screened in porch and outdoor gardens in which to eat. CEs are available for many mental health and health professionals. See the "About Mindul Self-Compassion" page for detailed information about the course.
Besides a beautiful workshop space/meditation hall and gorgeous tropical grounds, Gainesville Retreat Center is known for its delicious and nutritious home-cooked food. Organic meals will be made on-site just for this group; vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options will be available at every meal.
In addition to the course, the retreat setting will encourage self-care, relaxation and nurturing yourself throughouth the entire five days. Participants will practice "behavioral self-compassion" during the breaks by working with the self-compassion inquiry "what do I need right now", and responding by choosing activities during the breaks that are soothing and feel kind to themselves.
A music meditation/gong meditation and silent candlelight/moonlight labyrinth walk on New Year's Eve will be included in the program.
The meditation hall, GRC lounges, covered screened in porch, hiking trails, labyrinth and grounds will be available from 7:30 am - 8:30pm for commuters.
COVID protocols include requiring full vaccination, a negative test, meeting outdoors, social distancing and masking indoors when distancing is not possible--see below for details.
On-site housing is limited to 8 people in the GRC. You may bring your own camper. There are numerous hotels, motels and AirBNBs within a 10 minute drive to the GRC.
This intensive will be limited to 12 people all-together including commuters and those staying off-site to insure attention to all and that COVID protocols can be met.

Transportation: GRC is 10 minutes from downtown Gainesville. Gainesville, FL airport is 15-20 minute drive. Amtrak station/connecting bus from Jacksonville Amtrak station is 10-15 minutes. Jacksonville International Airport is 1hour 45 minutes. Orlando International Airport is 2hours. If flying into Jacksonville or Orlando, please plan on flights arriving by 1pm on arrival day and leaving no earlier than 4pm on departure day.
CEs: are available from University of San Diego for psychologists, social workers, MFAs, licensed counselors, and nurses (RNs). Requires attending all 8 classes and the retreat. Must sign-in and out at all course sessions. $40 fee as shown above is required to process the CE certificate which will arrive 2-4 weeks after the program.
Please note: Due to the intensive nature of this program, this course is not recommended for those with active or unregulated mental health concerns or unresolved trauma--the less intensive 8 week course may be a better choice for some. While the MSC course will be taught in a trauma-informed manner, the course material may be emotionally challenging as self-compassion skills are applied to stressful situations from your own life. Participants will have full choice of what material to work with and are urged not to use the course to address the biggest stressors or traumas in their lives.
Trish Magyari, MS, LCPC, Certified MSC teacher. Trish has led or co-led previous 5-day MSC intensives as well as assisted senior MSC teachers Chris Germer, Kristin Neff, Steven Hickman and Michelle Becker as the "Personal Support Person" role in large 5-day MSC intensives, meeting with people 1-on-1 and running small integration groups during the intensive. She also offers qualifying silent retreats and has led 8 Mindfulness and Self-Compassion silent retreats over the past 5 years.
****COVID Protocol: Please register ONLY if you are fully vaccinated, willing to test 72 hours prior to the start of the intensive, and wear masks as you go through the food line and in the indoors workshop spaces. Proof of vaccination and negative COVID test results will be required. The well-ventilated meditation hall/workshop has windows on three sides and fans; there is also a screened porch and outdoor spaces for eating. Staff at this facility are fully vaccinated. We request that all meals during the intensive are taken on-site to minimize exposures. Three meals will be provided to all participants whether staying on-site or commuting to minimize risks from the outside community and to enhance the retreat aspect of the intensive.
